Members and reps are entitled to leave of absence to attend Union training. Use this letter to make your request.

GENERAL MEETINGS

Open to all members who are welcome to attend along with the Committee to make these our main General Meetings.  As part of normal business members can raise workplace issues, join in discussions and help with decision making.  Free refreshments for all those attending.

DORSET TEACHERS COUNCIL (DTC) 

Committee Members meet each month with other unions and Dorset County Council Officers to negotiate policies and exchange current information.

Mid January. Meeting and Social Event

Time and place to be decided.  In addition to holding a brief meeting to select priority motions for Easter Conference, there will be a social event to welcome in the new year and look forward to the first full year of the NEU.

Tues 23 January. Dorset Teachers Council

9.30 am. Colliton Club, Dorchester.

Wed 24 January. Dorset NEU Joint ATL & NUT Sections meeting.

Wimborne. The joint Secretaries and Officers of the amalgamated unions get together to continue planning for full merger of local posts, meetings, procedures, rules etc to be in effect by Jan 2019.

Sat 24 February. South West Federation meeting

10.00 am, Regional Office, Knightshayes House, 9 Harrier Way, Sowton, Exeter EX2 7HU.  The second of two wide ranging meetings of delegates from all over the South West. Exchange of information, updates on local campaigns, insights into how Local Authorities and academy chains are pressing changes. Most of all a chance to network with active NEU colleagues regionally.

Tues 27 February. Dorset Teachers Council

9.30 am.  Colliton Club, Dorchester. (Review facilities allocation)

Fri 9 March. Dorset NEU (NUT Section) AGM

5.30 pm.  Allendale Centre, Wimborne.  The final AGM in its current format -  election of officers, accounts, decisions for the future running of branches/clusters.  Held jointly with Bournemouth and Poole Divisions.  Short business meetings followed by guest speaker, Exective Member Robin Head.  Drinks and buffet provided.

Tues 27 March. Dorset Teachers Council

9.30 am. Colliton Club, Dorchester.  (Final submissions of facilities usage).

Fri-Tues 30 March - 3 April. National Conference, Brighton

This is the main event in the Union's year.  Over 1,000 delegates from all over England and Wales gather to decide on the Union’s strategies and policies.  Dorset can send up to 7 delegates who vote on behalf of our local membership.  In particular, young teachers especially in the primary sector are encouraged to attend.  All expenses and accommodation are paid, and  families can join delegates for the weekend.
