Threshold Application

I am about to fill in my application form to cross the threshold. My head has asked me to provide loads of extra information and documents like a portfolio within the next few weeks. It will mean more work for me, what should I do?

You may need to provide evidence for any statement that you make on your application form. An assessor may ask to see your evidence but you will be given time to prepare for this. You headteacher does not need that information when you complete your form. So you don't need to hand in a portfolio or load of evidence it is unnecessary.

I have been told I have to administer medicines to a child in my class. Do I have to?

No adult who works in a school has to administer medicines to a child. The administration of medicine is a voluntary activity and no adult can be forced to do so. The NUT believes it is not a teachers duty to administer medicine and have serious concerns over the possible implications. It is not a 'reasonable request' from your headteacher and does not form part of your contract. There should be an agreed procedure in place involving staff who have agreed, the headteacers and the parents. One solution is for school the to be funded by the Learning Trust for a school nurse.

In my school we have a staff meeting and a planning meeting each week, making 2 hours. What should I do?

NUT policy is clear only one management meeting, lasting 60 minutes a week. This includes morning meetings. Some schools give over part of their INSET days or staff meetings for planning. You don't have to stay to any other meetings. Everything else you do is voluntary.
