What do we do?
We represent the views of our members in local and national negotiations. The NTA's policies are then managed by Officers and Committee Members, who are elected annually.
Individual members will receive our support whenever they have a professional difficulty.
An NUT Representative is to be found in most schools. If you have a problem in
your workplace, you should speak to the school's NUT Representative. If necessary, an NTA Officer, trained in employment negotiations, will take on your case. A Duty Officer is always on call.
Our present Duty Officer is the NTA's Secretary, Peter Smith. He has been re-elected every year since 1992.
The History of Our Association or Division
Newham Teachers' Association was formed when the teachers' associations in East Ham, West Ham and Stratford joined together, following the merger of those London Boroughs into the new London Borough of Newham.
