David Wills, Windsor and Maidenhead NUT Secretary, interviewed by Reuters TV at the TUC rally against government cuts, 19th October 2010
Windsor and Maidenhead
Windsor and Maidenhead Division of the NUT was formed in the 1990s when Berkshire split into unitary local authorities.
The Division holds training meetings for school representatives three times a year, led by regional officer Philip Clark. Regular meetings are held with representatives of the local authority. Based on the size of our membership, we are entitled to send four delegates to the NUT’s annual conference.
Highlights among recent events include:
• The strike rallies held in 2008 and 2011 at the Thames Hotel, Maidenhead, which attracted considerable local publicity.
• The visit of the national president of the NUT, Bill Greenshields, in 2009.
• A dinner to celebrate John Sheppard’s fifty years as a member of the NUT, June 2010.
During 2010, the association was a pioneer in employing a TUC Organiser. Sian Drinkwater recruited school reps, held school meetings, and generally encouraged activism amongst our membership. This pilot scheme has now finished, and has proved so successful that Organisers will be employed at regional level from 2011.
